Earlier this year I was asked to shoot event photography for the ‘Tackling Inequalities for our Children’ conference at Salts Mill in Saltaire.
A core group of Bradford’s senior leaders and decision makers have come together to develop an alliance – a strong partnership that has a bold 20-year ambition to tackle inequalities to improve the life chances for all children living across the Bradford district.
The event, organised by ‘Alliance for Life Chances‘ was aimed at demonstrating to schools, stakeholders and wider partners why Bradford needs to do more to focus its efforts on harnessing better outcomes for its children and young people.
Keynote speakers, including the voice of Bradford’s young people – described their experiences of living and growing up in Bradford. There were various music performances from local pupils demonstrating the talent of the district’s youngest citizens.
The event closed with the signing of a giant pledge of support for the Alliance for Life Chances ambition where delegates were asked to physically sign their mark of support as the team build their coalition of support for this approach and work that’s already underway.
Event photography should make the viewer feel part of the event
My brief for the event was to capture all the different aspects of the conference. The registration, coffee breaks, VIP rooms and panels and keynotes that were taking place across two parallel stages. This included the speakers, the public engaging as well as the stalls that were taking place between the two stages.
The photography needed to make you feel like you were at the event, capturing everything that happened and the sense of engagement. It was a great fit for my style of event photography.
You cover a lot of ground when shooting an event
If you’ve never visited Salts Mill before I can tell you it’s a pretty big space. The conference ran over two parallel stages at opposite ends of the huge main hall. My watch told me I covered 13km during the event as I jumped between both stages to ensure all the keynotes were documented. Not a bad workout!
“Thank you for the great pictures. They’re quite amazing and we’re very happy.”
