Simon Wiffen

Editorial Photographer based in Leeds, Yorkshire

Editorial Photography

I’m experienced in shooting a wide range of editorial photography for magazine articles and website features.

I work alongside picture editors, journalists, marketing managers and PR companies to provide beautiful editorial photography to help tell their stories. In addition I also work directly with businesses to provide commercial photography for websites, social media marketing and printed promotional material.

Based just off the M1 between Leeds and Wakefield I’m well positioned for editorial photography jobs across Yorkshire and the surrounding area. I’m also happy to travel further afield so if you have a project I’d be a good fit for please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Simon Wiffen Photography

“Simon worked with us on an editorial shoot for our charity magazine. He was professional from the outset and really great to work with, putting our subject at ease and gently bringing out his personality in the photos. He understood our brief fully and was creative with the shots he took, providing us with a range of really striking photos. We love them – Thanks Simon!”

Capturing Quality Editorial Photography to Support Your Story

As an editorial photographer I shoot with a relaxed, informal documentary style that is particularly well suited to environmental lifestyle portraits and editorial photography. I particularly like to work with people and pride myself on my ability to build up a rapport, helping the subject to relax and feel comfortable. I love to capture personalities and communicate the story in the photograph.

Giving You Maximum Flexibility for Editorial Use

I’ll work with you to ensure the style, mood and treatment of the images work with your editorial copy to support and enhance your feature. I’m an experienced designer so understand the benefits of having access to variations in images for creative purposes.

For instance, I’ll provide you with all the assets you need, in different orientations and with editorial space. This gives you maximum flexibility when creating masthead images, banners and social media graphics.

I’ve shot editorial photography for a number of clients including Der Spiegel, Moët Hennessy, TLG, Sense, The Migraine Trust, BHT Early Education & Training, Avery Healthcare, DermaVigour, Hill Engineering, Hudgell Solicitors, Hunter Safety Solutions, Klick Technology, Mobile Mini, Care Home Professional Magazine, Robins Mill, Tower Growth Management and Primary Futures

Editorial photography FAQs

How soon will we receive the images?

I appreciate that editorial photography often requires a quick turnaround. I’ll ensure that the images from your shoot are edited, processed and sent back to you in a timely manner as high priority.

How will the images be delivered?

Images will be delivered to you via a secure online gallery. From here you’ll be able to download images as you need at full resolution. If your editorial shoot only contains a small number of final images I may send these to you directly via WeTransfer.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, Simon Wiffen Photography holds Public Liability Insurance for £2 million.

Do you have backup equipment?

Of course! I always shoot with a backup camera body close to hand and my equipment setup has been designed with redundancy in mind so in the event of failure I’m able to continue working and providing you with great images.

If we think of additional shots we need on the day, will you stay longer?

I’ll discuss the specific shot list with you in advance of the shoot to make sure things run smoothly. However, if you think of additional shots on the day that require me to stay for longer I’ll do my best to stay available for as long as you need me. Any additional time will be charged at my standard hourly rate.

Do you charge expenses?

I don’t charge expenses for shoots within a 30 mile round trip. Outside that radius I charge travel expenses at 45p per mile. If there are additional expenses (train or hotel for example) these will be chargeable but I’ll agree these with you in advance.

What usage rights are included in your price?

When I provide the images to you I’ll grant your company licence to use the images for marketing, PR and editorial use for as long as you need for no additional cost. If any other companies wish to use the images for their own publicity or marketing purposes I’ll charge them a reproduction fee. I’ll retain the copyright to all images and retain the right to use them for my own promotional purposes.

What time will you arrive?

I believe in acting in a professional manner at all times. I’ll always aim to arrive in a timely manner and in advance of our agreed start time.

What happens if we have to cancel?

Once we’ve agreed a booking, in the event of a cancellation or postponement I will, at my discretion charge a fee based on how close we are to the shoot as detailed in my terms and conditions. 5 working days 25% of the agreed fee, 3-4 working days 50% of fee, 48 hours 75% of fee and 24 hours or less 100% of fee.

Do you have an upcoming photography requirement you’d like to discuss?

To discuss a project please give me a call or drop me an email and I’d be happy to talk through some ideas. I’d love to work with you!
