One of the key things I’m always looking for when shooting family photography is capturing the relationship and bond between family members.
For this shoot I met Rebecca and her family at Temple Newsam in Leeds. It’s one of my favourite locations to shoot in because of the wide variety of settings available over a relatively small area – perfect for little legs!
My approach to capturing families
As usual, my approach with this shoot was not just to capture the whole family together, but to be reactive to what they were doing during our time together and capture their natural story as it unfolds.
Sisters have a unique bond
I was actually shooting a few shots of their mum and dad with their younger brother when I turned and spotted this beautiful moment as Eva and Millie waited and immediately shifted my focus.
I always try and adapt to these moments as they present themselves as they deserve to be captured. They spotted me quickly and the moment was gone but there’s real magic in that split second.
I love this image. The combination of expressions, concentration and body language tells of a wonderful bond between sisters. Whenever I’m shooting family photography my aim is clear – I want to capture the kind of images I’d love to own if I was shooting my own family. Moments and images like this are the reason I shoot.
They are stunning thank you so much… so natural!! We are more than happy.
