In this edition we explore striking portraits from Albert Watson, discover three very different photographic interpretations of ballet, and go behind the scenes at the Winter Olympics – from Canon’s extraordinary gear room to the FPV drones capturing dramatic aerial footage. It’s a reminder that photography spans everything from intimate human moments to the immense technical effort required to document the world’s biggest events.
Shooting a secret family photography session
This was a fun session to be involved with. I met up with Jamie and his three girls at Temple Newsam in Leeds behind their mum’s back for a secret session.
The unpredictable nature of film photography
When I first fell in love with photography it was on film, processing images in my own darkroom. The analogue medium really makes you appreciate that photography is actual magic.
These days I very rarely shoot film, although I’d love to do it more often. There’s no doubt that in this digital world the cost of film and processing is a hard justification. So why would anyone shoot on film in this day and age?

Chasing the winter light
Happy new year to you! I hope you had a fantastic break over Christmas.
Like a lot of people we love to get out for a walk to blow away the cobwebs during the weird limbo period between Christmas and New Year.
We’re really fortunate to live where we do as we have plenty of green spaces to explore. One of our favourites is Newmillerdam, a fantastic country park just down the road with a large central lake surrounded by a 1.5 mile path as well as open woodlands.
