Capturing the Energy of STEMFest 2026

STEMFest Leeds 2026

Live events are unpredictable by their very nature. You can plan what you want to capture, identify the key people you need to speak to and build an idea of the story beforehand, but once the doors open you have to be ready to respond to what’s happening around you.

That was very much the case when I spent two days filming STEMFest 2026 with RTC North, an event designed to inspire young people through hands-on experiences with science, technology, engineering and maths.

Filming a Goalkeeper Camp with TopCatch Goalkeeping and Kick On Academy

Video still - TopCatch Goalkeeping + Kick On Academy Featuring Leeds United Goalkeeper Alex Cairns

When TopCatch Goalkeeping and Kick On Academy invited me to film their first joint goalkeeper camp featuring Leeds United goalkeeper Alex Cairns, it combined two of my worlds perfectly.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll usually find me coaching junior football, so the opportunity to capture a day dedicated entirely to goalkeepers was one I couldn’t resist.

Bringing a Campaign to Life Behind the Scenes: My Work with Yorkshire Tea

BTS for Yorkshire Tea

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to work on a brilliant project capturing behind-the-scenes photography and video for a new campaign shoot with Yorkshire Tea.

Partnering with Butterfly Conservation to Photograph the Leeds Wild Spaces Project

Leeds Wild Spaces Project - Community Plug Planting

I’m delighted to be partnering with Butterfly Conservation and Leeds City Council over the next six months to document the Leeds Wild Spaces project – a city-wide initiative focused on creating new habitats for butterflies, moths and other pollinators across Leeds.

Capturing Christmas at Gaucho Liverpool

Exterior commercial photography of illuminated Christmas lights at Gaucho Liverpool

A few weeks ago I was commission by Gaucho Liverpool to document their beautifully considered Christmas decorations both inside the restaurant and across its exterior frontage.

There’s something special about photographing festive installations at this time of year. As the days shorten and the city lights start to take over, locations take on an atmosphere you just don’t get in any other season.

Capturing UKREiiF: Hybrid Event Photography and Videography

Simon Wiffen Photography 0102

I recently had the pleasure of working with Winvic Construction at UKREiiF – the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum, held in Leeds capturing hybrid event photography and videography.

UKREiiF is a major industry event brings together key players in the built environment sector, including developers, investors, local authorities, and planners, for three days of panels, networking, and thought leadership. Winvic and Jennie Holland PR were hosting an outdoor pavilion, serving as a base for meetings and speaker sessions. My brief was to document the full scope of their presence – combining event photography and videography in a hybrid role.

New Short Film: North East of Eden Book Promo

North East Of Eden Still 04

This week I published a new short promotional film created for North East of Eden, a new book by Gabor Szabo.

This was a really enjoyable project to be part of. Gabor had written a script and had a clear vision for the film—my role was to bring that to life.

Using On-Camera Flash for Dynamic Event Photography

By reducing the shutter speed to around 1/2 second I was able to introduce dynamic motion blur.

Using on-camera flash, creative techniques, and ambient light, I captured a recent event in a way that reflected not just how it looked but how it felt to be there.

Hosted at The Queens Hotel in Leeds, the event presented both challenges and creative opportunities. With 300 attendees, a live band, and a bustling dance floor in a ballroom with towering ceilings and low ambient lighting, the setup can be intimidating for photographers. However, by embracing the conditions and adapting my approach, I was able to create a diverse set of images that not only documented the event but also captured its energy and atmosphere.

Bringing Family Connections to Life: My Work with Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK)

Natural, authentic photography of families impacted by Niemann-Pick diseases

At the core of every charitable organisation lies the human stories that inspire its mission.

For Niemann-Pick UK (NPUK), a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Niemann-Pick diseases, these stories are not just about resilience but also about enduring relationships built over time.
