Pumpkin hunting at Farmer Copleys Farm

Farmer Copleys Pumpkin Experience has over 130,000 pumpkins!

This week we took Ellis and his cousins pumpkin picking at Farmer Copleys Farm. I think it’s fair to say I’ve never seen so many pumpkins in one place before!

Summer family photoshoot at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Black and white photograph of a young boy sat on a bench

Way back in July I met up with Hannah, Jack, Rafe and Ada for a family shoot on a beautiful sunny morning at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Family Photography – Dogs are part of the family too!

They say “Never work with children or animals”, I couldn’t agree less! I like to be kept on my toes. Children and animals don’t sit still and why should they? Their job is to have fun, my job is to capture it.

Whenever a client asks me if it’s ok if they bring dogs to a family shoot they always seem to ask through a wince, anticipating a similar response from me. Nothing could be further from the truth though. I love the challenge!

Shadow & Light Monthly #24

headed west Paul McDonough

Shadow & Light is a list of curated photography stories, features, techniques, news and inspiration that I’ve come across this month.

In this month’s edition we look back at American street life in the analogue age and learn how to get great shots in the most mundane of spaces. We visit a fading Arkansas town and spend a blissful 5 minutes listening to the delectable sound of a range of camera shutters.

Capturing authentic family photography

Family portrait taken from a recent shoot at Temple Newsam, Leeds

The best family photography captures natural, authentic moments that show the love and bond within a family.

I was delighted to be able to get back out shooting what I love best recently – Family photography. A couple of weeks ago I had a wonderful session with Aleksandra and her family on a beautiful sunny morning at Temple Newsam.

Giant bubbles and celebrating five years of our little boy

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated our little boy’s 5th birthday with a small party for him and his friends in our back garden. The giant bubbles were a big hit.

The recent lockdowns over the last 18 months or so have been hard for everyone but we have to remember for some of the younger ones this has been going on for a quarter of their life! For Ellis and his friends it’s been an awfully long time since they’ve been able to attend any kind of birthday so it was a real joy to see them having fun and enjoying the sunshine together.

Shadow & Light Monthly #23

japan fireflies usadadanuki

Shadow & Light is a list of curated photography stories, features, techniques, news and inspiration that I’ve come across this month.

In this month’s edition we take a look at stunning long exposure photographs of fireflies captured in Japan and hear how one World War II soldier describes his photos of ‘the insanity of war’. We look at the importance of the photographic eye and step inside Mexico City’s historic danzòn ballrooms.

Beautiful family photography session in the Spring light

Gorgeous black and white portrait of a mum and her son sat under a tree

I usually shoot family photography sessions in the woods or a park but for this shoot we’d arranged to shoot in the client’s back garden. As I arrived at their house on the outskirts of Huddersfield it was immediately obvious why they’d asked me to shoot there.

Pre-Lockdown family photography session at Temple Newsam

Family photoshoot at Temple Newsam, Leeds

Before the latest COVID-19 lockdown came into effect I was able to kick-off 2021 with a family session at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

Autumn family photoshoot in Leeds

Autumn family photoshoot in a misty wood in Leeds

Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting a family photoshoot in a beautiful woodland setting absolutely packed with autumn colour.
