Beautiful black & white photography capturing the magic of childhood

My love of photography has always been driven by a desire to capture images of my family.

I first picked up a camera as a child and was immediately hooked on the magic of being able to capture a fraction of a second for ever. However, it wasn’t until I became a dad that I really appreciated how precious these moments really were.

It is a cliché but children really do grow up in the blink of an eye. Childhood is a magical time and it’s over so quickly my passion has always been to capture these moments in my photography.

I’ve spoken previously about what inspires me to shoot and while I love to shoot all kinds of photography, documenting the magic of childhood has always been the thing that’s motivated me to pick up my camera.

Childhood means simplicity. Look at the world with a child’s eye – it is very beautiful.

Appreciate every moment

Our family have had a bit of a roller coaster few years. Our beautiful baby boy was diagnosed with a life limiting condition at just 3 weeks old. I explored the realities of this in great detail as part of my book project, travelling the country meeting others affected by Cystic Fibrosis and talking to them about their life and the challenges they face daily.

These last few years have taught me that every single moment is precious. Every laugh, giggle, tear and accomplishment are to be celebrated, appreciated and remembered. Last week my little boy turned 3. Already I can’t believe where the time has gone.

My site tends to focus on more commercial work (although I do post a lot of personal photography over on my Instagram account) but I wanted to give an insight into what I’m most passionate about so have added a gallery of some of my favourite black & white photography capturing the magic of childhood.

If you’re a dad, or a mum; a brother or a sister; a husband or a wife, make sure your pick up your camera. Capture the memories but don’t be a slave to the camera. Make sure you’re part of the memories you’re shooting too.

If you’d like to see more of my work, you can find me on instagram. I’d love to connect with you so come and say hello!
