This month we visit the ‘Camera Guardian’ of Hong Kong and see images from an incredible 28 hour open water swim. We learn more about how Olympic photographers capture iconic moments and we see how one animal shelter has taken an unusual photographic route to encourage adoption.

Pick of the month – David Chan is the ‘Camera Guardian’ in Hong Kong
Regular readers will know I absolutely love old vintage cameras. I have a few dotted around the studio but Hong Kong camera shop owner David Chan takes it up a level.
Chan has spent the last 60 years amassing an incredible collection and this fascinating interview posted on DPReview is a fascinating watch. Chan views himself as less of a collector and more of a guardian. He is working to preserve vintage camera gear, rather than cultivating a personal collection.

These Photos Document an Incredible 28-Hour, 62-Mile Open-Water Swim
On June 26, 2020, former Malta Olympian Neil Agius completed a 100 kilometer (~62-mile) open-water swim between Sicily and Malta in record-setting time. Photographer Kurt Arrigo accompanied Agius and documented the incredible feat.
The results are a beautiful photographic documentary series that really tell the story of this incredible endeavour. You can read more, and see the full series of images over on PetaPixel.
Documentary ‘One Shot’ Details How Olympics Photographers Capture Iconic Moments
The Olympic games are the peak of international sports photography. The images photographers can capture there are timeless and iconic, long outliving the photographer and the subject.
Produced by Olympic Games Knowledge Management, “One Shot: Photographing the Olympic Games” is a documentary that explores the role photographers have in capturing that history.
The film features multiple award-winning photographers including Lucy Nicholson, Dave Burnett, Bob Martin, Tim de Waele, and Tsuyoshi Matsumoto and was shot during the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
It’s well worth a watch so I’d suggest you grab yourself a cuppa and enjoy the full documentary below.
Animal Shelter Photographs Older Dogs Dressed as Senior Citizens to Encourage Adoption
Senior dogs are typically harder to find homes for than younger puppies but are no less in need of a home. To help encourage their adoption, the Flagler Humane Society has playfully dressed these older dogs as senior citizens in an ongoing photo series.
As reported by CBS News and My Modern Met, the idea for the photo shoot was originally created as part of the “Clear the Shelters” month of August earlier this year, but has continued through November as it is “Adopt a Senior Pet Month.”
