Shadow & Light is a list of curated photography stories, features, techniques, news and inspiration that I’ve come across this month.

In this month’s edition we find out what it’s like to photograph the Olympics and look at the work of Linda McCartney. We look at stunning film-like images of Los Angeles and see what happens when you mount a 1916 lens onto a modern camera.

Pick of the month – Sports photographer shares what it’s like capturing the 2022 Olympics

Photographer Nick Didlick has been a photographer, photo manager, and International Olympics Committee (IOC) mentor for 15 of the international events.

Over on PetaPixel he shares his experience of being on the ground covering this year’s 2022 Winter Olympics. It’s a fascinating insight into a what goes into covering a Sports event of this size.

Linda McCartney: The American photographer who captured the Sixties

We’re huge Beatles fans in our house. Like a lot of people I absolutely loved taking a look behind the scenes with Peter Jackson’s recent Get Back documentary.

As a photographer I’ve been familiar with Linda McCartney’s photography work for many years but seeing the intimate behind the scenes footage watching the documentary brought it back to my attention. If you’ve watched it you’ll know that Linda is often seen in the background shooting and documenting what’s going on.

I’ve recently been going back through her Instagram page and appreciating her work all over again. It was quite timely then that I came across this article on The Collector digging deeper into her photographic portfolio. It’s full of wonderful images that really capture that magical period of time.

Franck Bohbot’s photographs of Los Angeles are like stills from a non-existent film

Internationally renowned photographer Franck Bohbot has revisited his Angels project, which sees him photographing the city of Los Angeles in original and surprising ways. Having previously released photos from 2017, the update contains photographs taken between 2017 and 2021 and includes striking images of the city taken during the pandemic.
